NDP says millennials will lose with new CPP

The NDP says Canadian woman and people with disabilities will be penalized if the amended Canada Pension Plan bill is adopted.

The House of Commons finance committee began studying the government bill on CPP this week.

Nanaimo Ladysmith MP Sheila Malcolmson says since 1977 disabled people and women who leave the workforce for a time to raise children were specifically protected with CPP but that language is not in the bill coming forward……

Currently, CPP benefits are calculated based on how much and for how long an individual contributed and ignores the years of zero or lower contributions and that boils down to higher monthly pension payments upon retirement.

The new bill doesn’t have that same kind of language.
