The Cowichan Campus of Vancouver Island University is hoping to raise enough money through their annual “Giving Tuesday” campaign to install a friendship bench.
A friendship bench is a bright yellow bench that serves as a physical place for students who are struggling with mental health issues like depression or anxiety to connect with others.
Student Affairs Coordinator Dave Barck says last year, the campaign raised over 175 thousand dollars, and the goal is to surpass that this year.
People can direct their donations to support a specific bursary, designate it to a particular faculty or project, or help students in the community who otherwise may not be able to attend University through a gift to the Inspiration Fund.
