Recommendations on domestic violence

The BC Coroners Service has released a report and recommendations of a Panel that looked into deaths caused by domestic violence.

The panel found that few victims of intimate partner violence tell anyone what is happening to them.

Theresa Gerritsen, with the Haven Society says, even when they do, friends, family, or even professionals may not understand the risks, nor how they can best help…..

The panel came up with three recommendations including a need for more public awareness about the issue and that parties understand the merits of early case management.

It also suggested the Provincial Domestic Violence office share data with the appropriate organizations to ensure there’s an integrated response to domestic violence.
