Pedestrian Struck in Nanaimo on Friday

A 66 year old man suffered two broken legs and back injuries after he was struck by a car on Friday.

RCMP say the driver reported he was travelling northbound on the TransCanada Highway around 6 o’clock when he noticed a person crouched over in the middle of his lane.

The driver was unable to change lanes due to traffic, applied the brakes but struck the victim who hit the windshield of the car before sliding to the pavement.

Police say it does not appear speed or alcohol were factors in the incident that resulted in the highway being closed around the entry to Petroglyph Park for about 4 hours.
