NDP hope to ban open-net pen salmon farms

A Bill is before Parliament which would amend the Fisheries Act to require that salmon farming off the Pacific Coast be carried out in closed containment facilities.
MP for Nanaimo Ladysmith, Sheila Malcolmson, speaking in the House of Commons, says the Bill is the result of growing concerns about the flourishing of sea lice in open-net pen salmon farms and the spread of disease to wild salmon….
The vote, on the Private Member’s Bill is expected tomorrow (Tuesday, Dec 6th).
