A day to remember

27 years ago tomorrow a man walked into l’Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal and shot to death 14 women.
His target was women, in particular.
Tomorrow (Dec 6) is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada.
Theresa Gerritsen, of the Haven Society, says since the shooting in 1989, some progress has been made….

Events will be taking place in communities across the country to remember the women who died and to reflect on the issue of violence against women in our society.

In the Cowichan Valley, the Cowichan Women Against Violence and local participants will gather to memorialize women, girls and transgender people who have lost their lives in gender-based violence and to honour those who left to mourn and carry on.
The gathering will begin at Sands Funeral Chapel at 5 pm Tuesday.
The ceremony starts at 5:30.
The event will feature speakers and entertainment. After the ceremony, and then participants will walk with lit candles, down Trunk Road and back to the chapel.
