Protection orders are a critical link to safety for women and families trying to cope with domestic violence.
The province has announced some changes to how those orders are delivered.
A professional process server will now be able to serve the orders and will act as an important protective shield so that women and their families are not put at further risk having to serve the orders themselves.
Carla Sampson, with the Cowichan Valley Regional RCMP Victim’s Services says the change is very good news….
Of the approximate 1,800 protection orders issued each year, about a thousand are issued when the respondent is not present in the courtroom.
