Ladysmith needs $6 million to fund water filtration

Ladysmith Council will be deciding how to finance the Town’s share of the construction costs for the new Water Filtration Plant at a special Council Meeting tonight (Mon, Dec 12).
Island Health requires the community to build a new plant to ensure safe, quality drinking water.
Construction costs are estimated to be more than 13 million dollars.
The community has tapped into an 8 point 8 million dollar grant but will need to borrow the rest.
Any loan with a term over 5 years will require the approval of Ladysmith voters, either through the Alternative Approval Process or a Referendum.
