Mail box bandits busted

RCMP say a pair of mail thieves have been taken off the streets after an off duty police officer spotted some suspicious activity.
The officer saw the two suspects, 40 year old Robert McKay and 39 year old Michelle McCallum, at a mail box site in Lantzville early Sunday morning.
Several mailboxes were open and the pair appeared to be rummaging through mail but got into their car and sped away when the off duty officer approached.
The officer followed the pair from a distance until the vehicle was stopped by police in the area of Jingle Pot Road and inside police found a large amount of unopened mail and a variety of break in tools.
The pair are facing charges that include four counts of mischief to Canada Post mail boxes and possession of stolen property.
In the meantime, police want residents to be extra careful when sending out packages in the mail during the holidays…
