Beginning January 1st, B.C. couples without children at home will have their MSP rates increased by 168 dollars per year.
Nanaimo/North Cowichan NDP MLA Doug Routley says the increase will affect about half a million working people in BC….
Routley says BC is the only province charging MSP premiums, the other provinces collects payments through their income tax systems, so that what people “pay” is based on their income.
The province says, beginning in 2017, the calculation of MSP premiums for each household will be based on the number of adults in the home and they’ll each pay 75 dollars per month.
According to the province, children are eliminated from all MSP premiums and the change will be of particular benefit to single parents who will only have to pay for themselves and not their children.
