The Environmental Appeal Board hearing into the operating permit granted to South Island Aggregates by the Ministry of Environment has been extended.
The hearing was scheduled to wrap today (April 4), but will now proceed until April 23rd.
Calvin Cook, president of the Shawnigan Residents Association, one of the groups opposing the contaminated soil project, says the board needed more time to examine the evidence.
Cook says despite the extension, the Shawnigan Residents Association team of lawyers remain optimistic the Board will come to the conclusion the permit granted to South island aggregates was granted based on flawed science.
