Chemainus public school most improved

A co-author of the annual Fraser Institute’s ranking of schools in B.C. says rather than just look at the ranking of a school, it is important to look at whether or a not a school is showing improvement.

Peter Cowley says the top three schools, all private, Shawnigan, Brentwood College and St. Margaret’s are no surprise, but none of them are showing real improvements when it comes to the academic performance of students.

He says only one school in the Cowichan, a public school is improving….

Cowley says parents in the Cowichan need to be asking their school’s principal what the plans for improvement are, when is it going to get better and what they can do to help.

As a principal, Cowley says, they should be finding the schools where there are improvements, picking up the phone and asking officials there what they are doing.
