Hill 60 to get new highway cam

After public outcry, and extensive discussions with the Ministry of Transportation, the webcam at hill 60 on highway 18 is coming back.

CVRD Area F Director Ian Morrison says he took the concerns he was hearing from the community to his contacts in the ministry and tried to impress upon them the importance of a cam at Hill 60.

He pointed out weather in that general vicinity is often different than it is in the rest of the valley–particularly in winter– and travelers use that cam to gauge whether or not to travel the highway.

The new webcam will feature solar powered equipment with images being sent over the cellular signals.

In late 2013 Mainroad contracting removed the camera and placed it at Mesachie Lake
