School District 79 will be cancelling recess in seven Cowichan Valley schools effective today (Monday).

It’s in reaction to the first stage of job action from the union in which teachers across the province have stopped carrying out duties considered administrative.

Also, starting today (Mon), the Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District is asking parents of elementary students to pick kids up 15 minutes early if possible.

That’s because recess is being moved to the end of the day.

Talks between the two sides in the teachers dispute are set to continue tomorrow (Tues).
