Day of Mourning today
In 2013, there were 128 workplace fatality claims in British Columbia and on average, more than 2 workers die every week instead of going home to their families.
In the Cowichan Valley there were 3 work related deaths in 2013.
The Annual Day of Mourning is today (Monday, April 28).
The Nanaimo, Duncan & District Labour Council will host three “Day of Mourning” ceremonies, in Lake Cowichan, Nanaimo and Parksville.
In Lake Cowichan the ceremony is at the Woodworkers Memorial Park at 10.
Representatives of the Labour Council, other unions and a Worksafe BC safety officer will be speaking about the hazards of the workplace, and what we need to do to improve worker safety.
