Boat Thefts in Maple Bay Lead to Arrest

A 25 year old Duncan man has been arrested after a theft of a boat quickly mushroomed into multiple thefts in Maple Bay.
North Cowichan Duncan RCMP responded to a call from a Genoa Road resident who reported her landlord’s boat being stolen. Corporal Krista Hobday says she also alerted her landlord who borrowed another boat to try and catch up with the thief.
Hobday says the arrest was in big part to the tenant’s observation skills.
The suspect was brought into custody without incident. RCMP are recommending numerous break and enter, and theft charges.
Hobday says they believe this man may be responsible for other thefts in other jurisdictions – if you have any information, contact the local detachment.
