Shooting suspect in court today

A deadly shooting at a Western Forest Products Mill has thrust Nanaimo into the spotlight.

61 year old Michael Lunn and 53 year old Fred McEachern were killed and 2 others are in hospital, one in critical condition

Nanaimo RCMP say they arrested 47 year old Kevin Douglas Addison, a former employee just minutes after getting 911 calls about a shooting at the mill.

Superintendant Mark Fisher says a shotgun was seized and they believe the shooter acted alone.

Company CEO Don Demens says they’ve shuttered their operations across the island out of respect for the victims.

Western Forest Products is bringing in grief counselors for employees.

Meanwhile Nanaimo Mayor John Ruttan says his heart goes out to everyone involved.

The Nanaimo RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit is leading the investigation and they say right now it looks like the suspect acted alone.
