Chemainus Water System Switching To Surface Water

The Chemainus Water System is switching supplies on Thursday from the Chemainus River Wells to the Banon Creek Surface Water Source.
Mayor Jon Lefebure says they municipality has submitted an application to the province to operate the Chemainus River Wells year-round, but that review is still in progress.
During the summer of 2016, the North Cowichan conducted additional testing to support the amendment application.
Chemainus residents may notice an increased smell of chlorine in their water due to an added dose of the chemical to disinfect the water.
The water supply will come from the Banon Creek surface water starting today until October 15th, when the supply will switch back to the river wells.
