North Cowichan Supports Citizens’ Assembly Recommendations on Amalgamation

A referendum on the amalgamation of North Cowichan and Duncan will likely be held at the time of the 2018 municipal elections or before.
North Cowichan Council joined the City of Duncan in voting to support the citizen’s assembly recommendations to give the public a chance to weigh in on the joining of municipalities.
Mayor Jon Lefebure:
Lefebure says there’s been a lot of debate already between council.
He says the next step is to put together a working group that will digest all the information on what an amalgamation would mean, so the public can fully understand what they will be voting for.
