Nanaimo mill to re-open

Western Forest Products is reopening all operations at its Nanaimo sawmill.

Work was stopped at facilities after last Wednesday’s deadly shooting.

The company says extra security will be in place.

The United Steelworkers union has been working with the company on plans for restarting, and says employees will be back at the Nanaimo mill tomorrow for what’s being described as a “soft” restart. And, counselling will be available as long as workers need it.

The union has also confirmed details of memorial services for the two men killed.

Separate memorials are planned for next Saturday for Fred McEachern and Michael Lunn.

The man charged with their murders, 47 year old Kevin Addison is due back in court May 13.
