New Zoning Allows Grow Ops on Agricultural Land

North Cowichan Council has voted to allow medical marijuana grow ops to run on property zoned for agricultural uses.
Previously, these facilities were only allowed to operate in Industrial zones due to the size of the operations and the necessary security required.
While council wasn’t fully sold on the idea of having the operations on the agriculture land reserve, they voted in favour of the amendment. The new bylaw fits within guidelines released by the province surrounding medical marijuana grow ops.
The bylaw includes some restrictions. The facility must be 30 metres from any watercourse, 15 metres from the property lines, and 30 metres from any neighbouring home. It must also be at least 150 metres from any park or school.
