Sex trafficking film to show Thursday

Canada has been identified as both a transit and a destination point for human trafficking, and Vancouver has been singled out by the U.S. State Department as a port of major concern.

The Cowichan Valley isn’t immune to human trafficking either and that’s why Cowichan Women Against Violence and a local community member are presenting a documentary, Red Light Green Light on the issue this Thursday evening (May 22nd).

Cammy Lockwood is a friend of the producers of the documentary which deals with preventing sex trafficking……

The film lasts about an hour and will be shown at the VIU Cowichan Campus Lecture Hall beginning at 7.

Following the film there will be a panel discussion with local front line workers, and RCMP provincial experts on human trafficking.

Last December, the Supreme Court of Canada gave the Federal Government one year to review and rewrite Canada’s prostitution laws….
