Community program decision time

School District 79 is cutting funding to the Crofton-Chemainus Community Schools Association by 50 per cent.

Coordinator Wendy Lambert says the loss of $28,000 will leave their community program teetering on the brink of existence. That’s why she has called an emergency meeting for tonight at the Chemainus Elementary School.

Lambert says if the support is there from the families she will then take the case back to the school board and ask them to reinstate the funding. Lambert also wants to know if this is the start of the end for community schools or if the district is interested in committing to their survival.

The meeting starts at 6:30.
