Cowichan Food Security Coalition Update

For the last decade, the Cowichan Food Security Coalition has been working to provide people with access to food.
Some of the highlights since 2007 include the development and promotion of a Cowichan Food Charter, the organization of educational opportunities for Cowichan Valley residents to start growing food in their own gardens, and the establishment of a food security research program.
Food Security Coordinator, Jennifer Dorby highlights what is planned moving forward.
Food insecurity deals with people’s access to it and Dorby highlights some of what’s been accomplished in the last ten years.
On a global scale, we waste 40 percent of the food grown, and with the high percentage of child poverty in the Cowichan Valley, providing food security for everyone is crucial.
