Legalization of Pot Expected to Impact Blood Donors

Next year, pot will be legalized and this legislation will have an impact on organizations and potentially on blood donations.

Marcelo Dominguez with Canadian Blood Services says  it’s a science based organization and the eligibility criteria to donate blood is constantly changing.

Right now, if you’re on any prescription medication, you’re not eligible to donate blood, but Dominguez says eligibility to donate blood could change.

Dominguez says one in two Canadians will need blood or know someone who needs blood in their life time, but only one in every 60 Canadians actually donates.
