2018 proposed CVRD property taxes released

It is the time of year when preliminary budgets begin to emerge from the various municipalities and the CVRD is one of the first out of the gate.
The GM of Corporate Services for the Cowichan Valley Regional District, Mark Kuebler says Cobble Hill saw the largest property tax increase last year and this year it’s the only area looking at a decrease….
The biggest proposed increases are in Youbou/Meade Creek where taxes could go up by just about 62 dollars a year and in the Mill Bay/Malahat area where taxes are set to rise by almost 55 dollars in 2018.
Kuebler says the budget is largely status quo but for areas, like Mill Bay/Malahat there’s no decreases in spending…..
For the rest of this month, November and December individual Committee and Commission meetings will take place where the budgets will be debated.
It is anticipated that the 2018 Five Year Financial Plan Bylaw will be adopted in January.
