Water Use Plan expected by year’s end

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is diving into the water issues in the Cowichan Watershed.
Chief Administrative Officer, Brian Carruthers says work is underway to create a Water Use Plan to address the water shortages in the Cowichan River system, specifically as it relates to Lake Cowichan storage options.
We asked Carruthers if this work hasn’t already been done by various interest groups……
Carruthers says a number of interest groups will be consulted….
Carruthers says the CVRD has been given 164,000 dollars from the Clean Water and Wastewater Program which will cover 83 per cent of the costs of this initiative.
Catalyst, who currently owns and operates the weir will cover the rest.
The Water Use Plan is expected to be finished in the spring of 2018 and that plan will provide recommendations around water storage options.
