The way ahead for illicit drug users who want to quit using

We’ve all heard the statistics from overdoses as a result of illicit drug use but we don’t often hear of the options available for treatment for those who want to quit using.
Island Health Medical Health Officer, Dr. Shannon Waters says, in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, the Substance use Treatment and Response Team launched a program last fall that helps people detox at home…..
Waters says the options here include going to the emergency room, the Canada Way Clinic or the Pheonix Wellness Clinic.
She says any of those locations can help someone who wants to quit using illicit drugs with other therapies like suboxone or methadone.
Waters says at the same time, many physicians in the region are being offered training so they can get more familiar with the treatments available.
