Trudeau Government Increases Minimum Distance From Whales

The Trudeau Government is moving to increase the distance boats must stay away from whales in the Salish Sea.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Oceans is moving to put regulations in place that require boats to stay at least 100 metres away from all marine mammals and 200 metres away from killer whales.

There are only about 77 southern resident killer whales in the Salish Sea.

Scientific evidence shows noise from large ships and whale-watching tour boats is one of the worst threats to the whales.
