NDP moves towards of Poverty Reduction Strategy

The Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction has taken the first step towards a Poverty Reduction Strategy for the province.

Shane Simpson says an Advisory Forum of a cross section of individuals will help identify the causes of poverty and provide ideas toward poverty reduction.

Simpson anticipates he will move forward with Poverty Reduction Legislation in the Spring.

According to the Market Basket Measure a minimum disposable income of 20,000 dollars a year for singles and 40,000 dollars a year for a family of four is what is needed to provide a basic standard of living.
