Province moves to make changes to civic election donations

The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing has announced legislation will be introduced to ban corporations, unions, and non-B.C. residents from donating to candidates or political parties in municipal elections.
Selina Robinson says the legislation will also limit how much an individual will contribute to a candidates campaign….
Wendy Booth, Union of B.C. Municipalities president says elections shouldn’t be won or lost on who has the most money and the change is something delegates to the annual UBCM convention have been calling for.
It’s expected the legislation will be in place in time for the 2018 general elections and any by-elections thereafter, including campaigns for councillors, mayors, electoral area directors and school trustees.
