If First Avenue in Ladysmith wasn’t world famous before, it certainly is now.
The Canadian Institute of Planners recently named First Avenue the 2017 Greatest Street in Canada.
Mayor, Aaron Stone says the volunteers are at the heart of this honour and everything that makes this route so special.
Stone says there are a variety of reasons the town was bestowed with this award.

On November 30, First Avenue is home to the world-renowned Festival of Lights and it marks the thirtieth anniversary of the local tradition.

Smithers was named the People’s Choice Neighbourhood and Mayor of Smithers, Taylor Backrach had a bet with Stone that the loser of this contest would have to visit the other town and promote the other town’s “great street.”

Both towns won, so the bet has to be reworked.

2017 B.C. winners:

Town of Ladysmith – Greatest Street in Canada (First Avenue)
Town of Smithers – People’s Choice Neighbourhood (Main Street)
City of Coquitlam – Great Public Space (Town Centre Park)
