Residents flip flop on Family Day holiday

A new Insights West poll has found most British Columbians are in favour of changing the date of the February statutory holiday.

The online survey, conducted between the end of October and early November included just over 800 people, and 71 per cent favoured moving the Family Day holiday to the third week of February.

That would put us in line with 7 other Canadian provinces who observe their holiday on the third Monday of February.
The Liberal government originally chose the second Monday in February back in 2013 after one of the largest web-based polls ever conducted by the province that saw 31,000 people weigh in.

The second Monday garnered over 18,000 votes while the third Monday had the support of about 9,400 and several thousand more had no preference.
