Catalyst Paper hosts water license meeting

Catalyst Paper has applied for a ten year water license approval to divert water out of Lake Cowichan.
The license would repleace the company’s short term water use license that expires at the end of this year.
That water discharges into the Cowichan River which flows east into Cowichan Bay.
30 per cent of the water is used by Catalyst for the pulp and paper facility in Crofton and for domestic use by the Village of Crofton, while 70 per cent is used for conservation purposes to support fish populations in the Cowichan River.
Catalyst Paper is open to hearing comments and questions about the application and are hosting an information session at the Lake Cowichan Centennial Hall on South Shore Road tonight from 6 to 8.
