Teachers support escalating job action

33,387 teachers cast ballots and 86% voted to support escalating job action.
BCTF President Jim Iker says with this vote, BC teachers have sent a very strong message to Christy Clark and her government; it’s time to negotiate in good faith, put new funding on the table, and reach a fair deal with teachers that also provides better support for students.

In releasing the results, Iker stressed that teachers are prepared to fully withdraw services and go on a full-scale strike, but that decision has not yet been made.

If teachers move to a full-scale strike, 72-hours notice would have to be given today for action to begin Monday.
Rotating strikes continue today (Wed) in 22 school districts, including the Cowichan.
No bargaining is scheduled for today.
Instead, arguments on the BC government’s request to have school exams and report cards declared an essential service will be heard by the province’s labour board.
