Drivers and pedestrians will now be able to both hear and feel the police coming.
North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP have started adding the “Rumbler Siren” to its fleet to enhance safety during emergency calls.
The Rumbler is like a a sub-woofer, utilizing low frequency tones that penetrate hard surfaces better than the high pitch of the regular siren.
Police say the rumbler is something that’s needed as vehicles have better sound insulation than they used to and with pedestrians and bicyclists wearing headphones, the technology will make sure they both hear and feel police coming.
