CVRD considers purchase of vacant school

A CVRD director says Saltair residents shouldn’t be frustrated about not having a public vote in regards to the purchase of an old school.
That’s  because,  Mel Dorey says most local governments don’t allow it.
The regional director for Saltair and the Gulf Islands says they are not ignoring citizens and are taking what they have to say into consideration.
Some residents in the community feel that restoring the old Mount Brenton school is a waste of money.
Dorey disagrees.
He says the school will be used for community meetings for the CVRD and there is the potential for a non-profit organization to run the school to take the tax bite away from residents.
