Suspect in Cow Bay/Cobble Hill thefts in police custody

A thirty-year-old male is in police custody after a string of reported thefts from motor vehicles in the Cowichan Bay/Cobble Hill area.

Shawnigan Lake RCMP say on Saturday morning they were called about a man trying to break into a vehicle.

A home owner in the Cobble Hill area noticed somebody walking up to his parked truck and entering it.

The home owner chased the male away, and obtained the licence plate number of the vehicle, a green Dodge Neon, in which he departed.

The suspect was later located by Westshore RCMP after being notified that a vehicle matching the description of the one that fled from the Cobble Hill incident was heading to Victoria on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Police say all the items taken were from unlocked vehicles and they would like to remind people to keep their vehicles and homes locked.
