Lake Cowichan council, workers ratify new deal

The Town of Lake Cowichan and United Steelworkers Local 1-1937 ratified a new four-year contract Tuesday night to avoid the possibility of a strike.

The union served the council a 72-hour strike notice last week, however, both parties had a meeting with the labour board in Vancouver this week that resulted in a tentative agreement.

According to a report — the 16-member union voted 64 per cent in favour of the deal retroactive to June 15 , 2013.
