Cowichan River too low

The conditions in the Cowichan River are getting serious again due to a dry winter and lack of spring rain.
One Cowichan’s Parker Jefferson says during a weekly conference call on the watershed, which includes the operations of the weir at Lake Cowichan, participants are hearing the situation is critical….
He says the solution to the problem would be to raise the weir, but no one seems to be listening.
Jefferson says the group is frustrated because provincial officials who are supposed to be overseeing the watershed don’t seem interested in joining in the conference call to hear what is happening…..
Jefferson says the recently passed Water Sustainability Act has a provision to turn over the control of watersheds to qualified local people and that’s what the Cowichan River group is pushing for.
