Businesses in the Cowichan Valley are preparing for a brave new world on Tuesday when Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation kicks in.
The Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce says they have offered their four hundred plus members a seminar on how to prepare for the new legislation that will be used to protect consumers from undesired commercial electronic messages.
In addition — the chamber’s membership and events manager Elizabeth Croft says their website has information about the looming changes.
Croft says businesses must now have contest to send emails.
Fines for violating the legislation range from 1 to 10 million dollars.
