Cow Bay's fire crew takes care of business

Cowichan Bay’s firefighters had a busy Saturday night with three incidents requiring their services.

The department says they had to deal with two separate fires, a burning barn and truck, as well as a collision involving a motorcycle and a bear.

They add the cause of the barn fire in the 2100 block of Koksilah Road, which destroyed a tractor, baler, vehicle and forage crops is still under investigation.

The fire crew says they got word of a truck blaze on the highway near golf course hill, south of Duncan, while they were dealing with the barn.

Lastly, the department had to help a motorcyclist after he hit a black bear in the 2200 block of Hillbank Road.

According to a report, the driver suffered a suspected broken leg and was taken to Cowichan District Hospital.
