Local firefighters cool off fire on Mt. Tzouhalem

20 firefighters using seven trucks were needed on Monday to put out a brush blaze on the northeast slope of Mt. Tzouhalem.

The incident commander for the Maple Bay Fire Hall is Bob Taylor.

We asked him how the blaze could have started.

Taylor says there are no hydrants out that far, so several water trucks, including one from Crofton, had to ferry water over from the nearest hydrant at Maple Bay Marina.

He adds brush fires are always a challenge because most of their equipment is designed for structure and house fires.
