The Cowichan Valley School District Board is calling the on-going labour dispute between the BCTF and government a “challenge” as teachers returned to the picket lines on Tuesday in what was scheduled to be the first day of school.

The official trustee for the Cowichan Valley School District is Mike McKay.

He says the valley board is under the direction and framework of the provincial bargaining structure which means the BC Public School Employers Association is the official bargainer and spokesperson.

The mediator hired to help negotiate talks between the two sides walked way over the weekend.
