BC Hydro warns of new telephone scam

BC Hydro is warning residents in the Cowichan Valley that there is a new telephone scam going around the province.

Officials say customers are receiving calls where the caller claims to represent the company and says your power will be disconnected if a payment is not made.

They add that BC Hydro will send several notices asking for payment in the mail or an automated dialer and doesn’t collect credit card or bank account info like those individuals claiming to work for the company.

Officials say customers are asked to report the calls to BC Hydro, local police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
