Islands Trust wants government action on Ferries report

The political fall-out from a report on the economic impact of rising fares and cut-backs at BC Ferries continues.
The Union of BC Municipalities study says over the past 10 years the economy has lost 2.3 billion dollars because of the rising cost of ferry travel.
At their meetings this week on Keats and Gambier Islands the Islands Trust voted to press the government to act on the report.
Sheila Malcolmson is Chair of the Islands Trust.
Malcolmson says she expects other local governments in BC will make a similar call to the province when the UBCM meets in Whistler later this month, and Islands Trustees will back them.
The UBCM report’s recommendations include returning fares and sailings to 2013 levels.
