Penalties allowed to increase to deter short term rentals in stratas

The province is looking to make more room for long-term renters.

New regulations are coming in to deter strata property owners from renting out their place on a short-term basis.

Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing believes short-term rentals have put significant pressure on vacancy rates.

Once the new regulations go into effect on November, strata corporations can charge $1,000 a day for people who aren’t following the rules.
