Students in SD 79 to start school Monday if tentative contract ratified

Students in School District 79 will be back in classrooms on Monday if the results of today’s ratification vote, which will be revealed on Thursday night at 9:30 pm, are in favour of accepting the tentative contract between the BCTF and their employer.
So says the official trustee of the Cowichan Valley School District, Mike McKay, following Wednesday’s Board of Education meeting.
He adds losing the first three weeks of the new year school is a challenge they have never faced before.

McKay says there are a number of plans that will be rolled out including hearing from the Ministry of Education on how to balance the two semesters and having teachers potentially back in action on Friday.

The Nanaimo Ladysmith District says Tuesday will be the first day for students in its schools.
