Coastal Fire Centre allowing open fires

Starting at noon on Wednesday, the Coastal Fire Centre is lifting its ban on open fires.
That includes campfires, burn barrels, and Category 2 fires that burn material smaller than two metres in height and three metres in width.
Fire Information officer Donna MacPherson says that’s due to the decreased risk of wildfires.
MacPherson says it’s important to remember that all local burning bylaws still apply.
MacPherson says the number of forest fires so far this year within the Coastal Fire Centre is significantly lower than the 10-year average. There have been 174 fires compared to the average of 235. She says that has enabled them to send much-needed resources to help fight fires burning in other parts of the province.
