UBCM set to vote on ferry report

Coastal communities have been raising red flags about service cuts and fare increases at BC Ferries for years; today they’ll find out if the rest of province is ready to back them up.
Recommendations from a Union of BC Municipalities report on BC Ferries come up for a vote today at the group’s AGM.
The report found the hit to the economy has been 2.3 billion dollars
Sunshine Coast Regional District Chair Garry Nohr says they worked to make sure the report is accurate.
Yesterday the report’s author answered criticisms from the Transportation Minister… and Islands Trust Chair Sheila Malcolmson says there was a bit of a surprise

The main recommendation calls for BC Ferries to roll back fares and return service to 2013 levels. They also include having BC Ferries treated as part of the highway system and bringing the government and coastal communities together on a new long-term strategy.
